Some experts recommend just brushing or wiping off mushrooms with a damp towel, since they are so absorbent and may lose some flavor if soaked in water. However, others think it's not such a big deal.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Mixing bowls
  • Paper towels
  • Mushrooms
  • Dishtowels

Step1
To clean mushrooms without soaking, wipe them with a clean, damp towel or special mushroom brush. Be sure to wipe the stems, too, if you will be using them.
Step2
Otherwise, put the mushrooms in a bowl of water.
Step3
Swish the mushrooms around until the dirt comes off.
Step4
Rinse in fresh water.
Step5
Dry the mushrooms well with a towel or paper towel.
