How to Understand a Cleansing Fast for the Large Intestine

Keeping your colon clean and functioning smoothly allows other glands and organs to expel toxins and unwanted mucus properly. This large-intestine fast is one of the more difficult fasts to perform properly, so we suggest consulting your health care provider before you begin.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Know that research suggests that some strains of viruses, bacteria and parasites establish themselves in the cecum (a sac-like organ connecting the large and small intestines) and can cause recurring illness and infection. Congestion of the large intestine is known to cause lower back and midback pain, as well as headaches, sinus congestion, sore throats, crankiness and lack of energy.
Step2
Understand that lack of fiber in your diet increases the transition time of wastes through your colon and increases the production of bacteria. This factor has been linked to diseases such as colitis, diverticulosis, cancer and other chronic bodily diseases.
Step3
Realize that the natural pectine in apple juice softens and loosens the hardened matter in your intestinal tract and is very good for cleansing the intestine when combined with intestinal brooming aids (natural fibers used in cleansing). Foods high in fiber, such as whole grains, are essential for toning the newly cleansed colon.
Step4
Do further research on colon care on the Web to learn more about the value and methods of proper colon care.

Tips & Warnings

  • The ingredients in soft drinks, drugs (particularly antibiotics), and food adultered with refined white sugar, flour and preservatives damage the beneficial flora in the colon. This flora is slow to re-establish itself in your colon, so it is best to avoid these foods following your fast.
  • Pregnant women and children should not fast.
  • If you have diabetes, heart disease, ulcerative colitis or epilepsy; are younger than 18 years old, underweight, alcohol- or drug-dependent; or are on any medication, talk to your health care provider before fasting.
