Fasting has been a popular internal cleansing method throughout time in various cultures. This lemonade fast, adapted from Stanley Burrough's master cleanser recipe, lasts for up to 10 days, so be prepared mentally as well as physically before you begin. We recommend that you consult your health care practitioner before taking part in this or any fast.

From Quick Guide: Master Cleanse
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Lemonades
  • Maple Syrups
  1. Step 1

Understand that the theory behind this fast is that lemon and lime juice, while high in vitamin C, potassium and other minerals, are also astringent, which causes tissue in your body to contract, squeezing out toxins stored deep within.

  2. Step 2

Realize that this fast is also designed to help your body eliminate much of your old fatty tissue, at an average rate of 2 pounds a day, with a very low risk of negative side effects. This prepares your body to build new fatty tissue. Many of the toxins stored in the old fatty tissue are also released during this fast through the usage and breakdown of the tissue.

  3. Step 3

Keep in mind that people also believe this fast eliminates and dissolves accumulated mucus throughout your body, helping to clear up the flu, asthma, hay fever, sinus or bronchial troubles, as well as colds and various allergies harbored within mucus. Cholesterol deposits in your arteries and veins also respond well to the intense cleansing power of lemon juice and cayenne pepper.

  4. Step 4

Realize that in addition to the cleaning powers of the ingredients of this fast, in general, juice fasting flushes your system with large amounts of liquid, allows your digestive organs to rest, and reduces the fermentation activity in your internal organs by supplying very little sugar or starch to your body.

  5. Step 5

Understand that, because all the foods that most of your internal organs are constantly striving to filter, process and digest are eliminated, all of your organs are given a chance to rejuvenate themselves.

Tips & Warnings
  • Expect to lose weight at a rate of 2 pounds a day during this fast. This is due to the breakdown of fatty tissues in your body. You will gain this weight back once you resume normal eating habits.
  • Avoid heavy exercise during this fast. Light yoga, walking and gardening are excellent ways to stimulate your metabolism without straining your body.
  • Because there is very little to fix and prepare for this fast, it is important that you find ways to keep busy. Take note of the role that food and meals play in your life.
  • Most people experience the greatest amount of hunger around the third day (this varies slightly according to your metabolism). This is when your body and mind will conspire the hardest to get you to quit. After you cross this hump, you will stop feeling hungry and begin to experience the real benefits of this fast.
  • Pregnant women and children should not fast.
  • If you have diabetes, heart conditions, ulcerative colitis or epilepsy; are younger than 18 years old; are underweight; or are on medication, use extra caution when fasting.
  • If you have any questions or concerns, contact a physician or other health care professional before fasting. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.

on 1/7/2009 I done the colon cleanse for 4 days (great), now I am continuing with this fast, however i am not doing the salt flush as i have read it can actually hinder loosing excess water (salt in the body does this) and salt flushes may actually do more harm than good. I also take a daily water or coffee enema to clear my system from the toxins released. Have lost 6lbs in 5 days that i couldnt shift before so will continue as long as i can, would love to be one of those who do 14/21/30 day fasts but this is my first fast so we shall see :)
