How to Make Herbal Holiday Decorations

Create a holiday herbal display inside a clear glass ball using regular Christmas balls, moss, a few sprigs of partridgeberry and other herbal plants.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Glass Christmas Balls
  • Liquid Bleach
  • Mosses And Partridgeberry
  • Water
  • Eyebrow Tweezers
  • Paper Towels
  • Paper Towels
  • Paper towels
  • Water
  • 1 tsp. crumbled charcoal
  • 1/4 cup soilless potting mixes
  1. Step 1

    Pull chimney top off a 2½-inch diameter Christmas ball. Save chimney top.

  2. Step 2

    Place Christmas ball into a 1:1 solution of water and bleach and let soak overnight.

  3. Step 3

    Rinse ball with plain water and wipe off with a paper towel. At this point, the color should come off and the ball should be clear and see-through.

  4. Step 4

    Mix crumbled charcoal with soilless potting mixture.

  5. Step 5

    Pour charcoal/potting mixture into ball. Fill ball half full.

  6. Step 6

    Using tweezers, insert small amounts of trailing moss into ball.

  7. Step 7

    Insert partrigdeberry and other herbal plant material into ball.

  8. Step 8

    Replace chimney top.

  9. Step 9

    Hang ball as Christmas ornament.

Tips & Warnings
  • Regularly mist plant material with water.
  • Hang away from direct sunlight.
