Bob Marley, born February 6, 1945, is internationally recognized as the Godfather of reggae. While he did not invent this timeless form, he became reggae's seminal figure. Kick back, mon, and relax to the sounds of reggae in celebration of Marley's birthday.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • CD Players
  • Jamaican Beer
  • Sage
  • Incense
  • Bob Marley CDs

Step1
Take a trip to your local library to do some reading about the man revered by Bob Marley and all other Rastafarians: Haile Selassie, former Emperor of Ethiopia.
Step2
Book a trip to the Caribbean paradise of Jamaica, Marley's home and birthplace.
Step3
Play Bob's debut release track, "Judge Not," as a tribute to the beginning of his prosperous and uplifting career.
Step4
Take a stab at reading the palms of your friends and family. Prior to becoming a singer and musician, Marley was a well-known local palm reader.
Step5
Purchase hemp-manufactured clothing in celebration of the herb that inspired Bob throughout his life.
Step6
Pop open a Red Stripe, Jamaica's favorite beer, in tribute to Marley's homeland.

Tips & Warnings

  • In recognition of the legend, make a donation to the American Cancer Society, which collects funds to help in the fight against all forms of cancer. Bob Marley died of melanoma in 1981.
  • Be mindful of negative feelings while you celebrate Marley's birthday. He, like all true Rastafarians, preached a peaceful world order with brotherhood and sisterhood between all people.

on 7/31/2006 Stop and thank Jah. The one that Bob called throughout his life. Jah is a great source of peace and positivity. Be inspired to become a loving source like Bob and Jah.

on 2/28/2006 On Bob's birthday I celebrate as if it were a recognized holiday. Put on your Bob Marley T-shirt, a rasta tam (knitted hat with brim), and wear the colors red, green, gold, and black. Play Bob's music and really listen to the lyrics. Make this day be a way to positively change your life and positively affect the life of others.

on 2/28/2006 Bob Marley was a very active member of the communities that he was a part of. Do some research on these communities and, at least for the day, try to engage life as Bob Marley would have.
