Don't gum up your Mac screen with paper notes - there are Stickies under your Apple menu that do the job without the glue. Stickies are available in Mac OS 7.5 and later.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac OS 9.0
  1. Step 1

Open the Apple menu, then select Stickies. If a blank note doesn't appear, open the File menu and select New Note (or press Command-N).

  2. Step 2

Type your note, then move it to where you want it on the desktop.

  3. Step 3

To delete a sticky, click on the close box in the upper left corner.

  4. Step 4

To collapse a sticky temporarily, click on the collapse box in the upper left.

  5. Step 5

To resize a sticky, drag the lower right corner.

  6. Step 6

To hide all stickies: Click on the Application menu (icon in the upper right of your Mac's screen) and select Hide Stickies.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stickies automatically saves your notes. You don't have to choose Save or choose a place to save your notes.
  • You can find out when a sticky was created and modified by selecting the sticky, then clicking on the Note menu and selecting Note Info.

on 9/23/2009 Where can I find my saved stickies notes? I would like to open and relocate the notes I saved, it's driving me nuts as I can't find anywhere that tells me where to find them!!!

on 7/6/2008 I lost my original StickyNote and see no way to locate it. I found the StickyNoteDatabase file in my Backup Library, a 4kb (and likely empty, not readable) file, but see no way to regenerate it. Much valuable info was/is on that first StickyNote I've been using since I bought my MacBook Pro. Any suggestions?

on 10/31/2007 This eHow has several steps that do not apply to OS X. The Apple menu, for example, went away with OS X. So did the Applications menu. It's probably time to revise these tips.

on 10/31/2007 The close box is pretty small and can be difficult to see. Use Command-W (that's the Apple and the w key at the same time) to delete a sticky.
