Searching your hard disk, or the Web, is easier with "channels" (search sets) in Sherlock 2 under Mac OS 9. Here's how to expand on the standard set.

From Quick Guide: The Power of Mac OS
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac OS 9.0
  1. Step 1

Open Sherlock 2 by selecting it from the Apple menu or by pressing Command-F in the Finder.

  2. Step 2

Click on the Channels menu and select New Channel.

  3. Step 3

Type in a name for your channel in the box that appears.

  4. Step 4

Choose an icon for your channel (see Tips).

  5. Step 5

Select a channel type from the menu.

  6. Step 6

Optionally, type in a description of your custom channel.

  7. Step 7

Click OK and exit Sherlock 2. A folder for the new channel is created inside your System Folder.

  8. Step 8

Open your System Folder and then open the Internet Search Sites folder inside it.

  9. Step 9

Locate the folder you just created and duplicate (Command-D) the Sherlock 2 plug-ins into your new channel folder.

  10. Step 10

Close all windows and launch Sherlock 2. Your custom channel is now active.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can choose an icon for your custom channel by selecting one that's listed, or by dragging (or copying) one from the Scrapbook or elsewhere.
  • You can close all open windows at once by holding down the Option key and clicking the close box on the uppermost window.
