How to Use Channels for Searching in Mac OS 9

Searching your hard drive or the Web is easier with "channels" (search sets) in Sherlock 2 under Mac OS 9.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac OS 9.0
  1. Step 1

    Open Sherlock 2 by clicking on the Apple menu and Sherlock, or by pressing Command-F in the Finder. You will see six preset channels, or search sets: Internet, People, Shopping, Headlines, Apple and Reference.

  2. Step 2

    Select the Internet channel to search multiple Web sites.

  3. Step 3

    Pick the People channel to find a person's location, e-mail address and phone number (if available).

  4. Step 4

    Choose the Shopping channel find merchandise, prices, availability, and so on, using multiple e-commerce and auction Web sites.

  5. Step 5

    Use the Headlines channel to find the latest news.

  6. Step 6

    Select the Apple channel to find Apple products, tech information and the Apple Web site.

  7. Step 7

    Use the Reference channel to look up information in a dictionary, thesaurus or encyclopedia.

Tips & Warnings
  • To search on an internal hard drive, click on the picture of the disk drive in Sherlock, then type your search.
