Step 1
Open the Apple menu and select Control Panels.

Select the Software Update control panel.

To update immediately, click on the large Update Now button. You will see a message asking if you want Software Update to look for new or updated versions of software. Click OK and you will be connected to the Internet.

To update later, you can set a schedule: Mark the "Update software automatically" checkbox, then click the Set Schedule button.

Step 5
Pick a time of day and day of the week for automatic search and update.

If you don't want Software Update to ask you before downloading any new software, uncheck the "Ask me before" checkbox. Click OK.

Step 7
If Software Update finds new or updated software, it will list all of it for you, with checkboxes letting you choose which, if any, to download. Finish by clicking the Install button. If your Mac must be restarted for the updates to run, you'll be told that, too. Just click OK.
