Writing well is a practiced art, but practicing on your own with no feedback is not the way to make progress.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pen
  • Word Processor
  1. Step 1

Consider writing for eHow. Everyone knows how to do thousands of things, and you'd be surprised at how much you can help others by sharing your knowledge.

  2. Step 2

If you are a student, call your school paper. Ask for an assignment and a deadline to prove yourself.

  3. Step 3

Take an adult education course in creative writing. Classes for non-students and adults are generally offered at colleges and universities, or they may be available through your community recreation department.

  4. Step 4

Visit your local newspaper. While The New York Times may not read your submissions, most communities have smaller local papers, which are often desperate for new content.

Tips & Warnings
  • Find an experienced writer or editor to help proofread your work before submission. Even though a newspaper may have editors on staff, you always want to put your best foot forward.

on 8/23/2008 Don't forget to read, read, read. Great writers read anything and everything they can get their hands on. Not only does it strengthen your vocabulary but it will also spark ideas. Reading writing guides and handbooks will also improve your writing skills dramatically.
