Combat the damage of chemical treatments, coloring, heat styling and environmental pollution by deep-conditioning your hair on a regular basis. This will help replenish lost moisture and keep locks shiny and resilient.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Assess your hair's needs and the time you have available. Different formulas offer different levels of conditioning, and treatment time can range from 2 to 60 minutes.
Step2
Select a formula that best suits you, then consult your stylist to insure that the conditioner you've chosen will not interfere with your color treatment.
Step3
Shampoo your hair. Towel dry, absorbing all excess moisture.
Step4
Place a quarter-size amount of conditioner in the palm of your hand. Use more conditioner for longer hair.
Step5
Rub hands together gently to distribute conditioner.
Step6
Begin at the hairline and apply conditioner from forehead to ends. Comb through hair for even distribution, applying a little extra to the ends of long tresses.
Step7
Massage scalp and relax for the time indicated.
Step8
Rinse thoroughly and style as usual.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a quick deep-conditioning in the shower, gently squeeze any excess water from your hair and distribute the conditioner evenly throughout your hair. Shave your legs or suds your body to give the conditioner time to work.
  • For a spa-like experience, light a candle and draw a bath prior to the application of conditioner. Clip your hair up or tuck it under a shower cap and relax in the tub for 20 minutes.

on 8/8/2006 You can wash your hair with some vinegar (watered down 1:3). It will smell a bit, but it really makes your hair very strong. Do it once a week for 6 months and you will see big time results for your effort. Vinegar cannot damage your hair.

on 8/8/2006 Using mineral water for your final rinse works wonders for encouraging softness and shine. Rain water gives fabulous results too.

on 8/8/2006 First, take a protectant/defrizzer (I use SamySilk)and massage it through your hair until it feels yucky and slimy (trust me on this.) Next, take lemon juice and do the same, for extra softness. Get tinfoil or kitchen-wrap ready, and a hat or towel. I recommend using a rejuvenating conditioner for normal to oily hair, and for dry hair a deep conditioner with added moisture. Take this and put a lot of conditioner in your hair, which is now slimy and perfumed (not too much unless your hair is really dry.)

Take the wrap and put your hair up in it, and put the hat on. You may want to sleep with it in, I found you get more time for it to saturate every strand that way.

When you feel it is ready to be washed off (after 2-8 hours at best), take a shower and wash your hair as normal. Make sure your final rinse is as cold as you can stand, for extra shine and softness.

I blow-dry my hair to straighten it, but you all have your preferences to that, I respect that. When your hair is dry or as it is drying, use a wide-toothed comb, not a brush, to rid your tresses of knots. Using a brush increases your chances of breakage, a no-no for people with dry, coarse or frizzy hair, or even normal hair.

Well, I hope this works for you. I definitely will do this again, I had fun going through all the homemade recipes people posted.

on 7/20/2006 For really frizzy, coarse hair, make your own hair treatment! Mix together: a lot of olive oil, a few drops of rose essential oil (or whatever oil smell you like) a raw egg, and half a mashed banana, wet hair and rub in well, leave for 20 minutes then wash and condition as usual.

Only use a small amount of shampoo, preferably one for your hair type. Dry banana is very hard to get out, so if you don't want the work, simply leave the banana out, although it does wonders!
