The world's second largest French-speaking city offers old-world charm and elegance. Montreal has very extreme weather, however, so come prepared.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Backpacks
  • Duffel Bags
  • Walking Shoes
  • Travel Clothes
  • Garment Bags
  • Carry-on Bags
  • Luggage Sets
  1. Step 1

Pack according to your business needs. Most men and women wear suits in the more traditional professions. Hose and knee-length skirts are advisable for women.

  2. Step 2

Take lightweight layers for summer visits. Long shorts, khakis, long- and short-sleeved shirts, skirts and a sweater for layering should suffice.

  3. Step 3

Pair warm-weather attire with sandals and walking shoes.

  4. Step 4

Bring warm clothes for visits between November and March when temperatures are low and the air is bitterly cold. A very heavy winter coat, long underwear, wool pants, turtleneck sweaters, a wool hat, a warm scarf, gloves, heavy socks and boots are must-haves.

  5. Step 5

Pack simple, dressy-casual attire for evenings on the town. Women will impress in a nice dress and heels, while men might opt for slacks, a sports coat and loafers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bring a carry-on bag that includes all necessities - such as your passport, a change of clothes, all medications, spare contact lenses or glasses, all forms of money and any important documents--in case your luggage goes astray.
  • Pack to accommodate your needs. Leave superfluous items at home.
  • Always pack suits in a garment bag to avoid excess wrinkles and misshapen garments postflight.
  • As of January, 2007, passports are required for US citizens traveling between the US and Canada by air. In January, 2008, the requirement will extend to include those traveling by land or sea.

on 11/22/2005 I'd like to stress again how important it is to bring very warm clothes to Montreal if coming in the fall, winter, or spring. Montreal is a port city and therefore gets lots of snow and it can be very windy. It is better to have too much clothing than not enough!
