How to Post to a Newsgroup on WebTV

Been lurking in a WebTV newsgroup, but haven't had the nerve to post yet? Well, go ahead and try; it's fun and you can meet people that way, too.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • WebTV
  • Televisions
  • Internet Access
  1. Step 1

    Go to the Home Screen.

  2. Step 2

    Click Community.

  3. Step 3

    Click Discuss.

  4. Step 4

    Click All Groups.

  5. Step 5

    Choose a topic that interests you.

  6. Step 6

    Click on a newsgroup.

  7. Step 7

    To send a completely new message ("start a new thread,") click Post. Type your message and then hit Send.

  8. Step 8

    To respond to a post someone else wrote, open it and then click Respond. Type your reply and then hit Send.

Tips & Warnings
  • Before you post, read the newsgroup for a while to make sure people will appreciate your wisdom or request for information. If the group has a frequently asked questions (FAQ) document, read it.
  • Make sure your posts have substance. It's considered poor form to post a message with just "I agree" or "Me, too" in it.
  • You can also respond to a post someone wrote and have it go to their e-mail address instead of posting to the group. It's courteous to do this if you feel the rest of the newsgroup wouldn't be interested. Just click the Mail To button,
  • type your response and click Send.
