How to Find Newsgroups in America Online

You can find newsgroups on all types of subjects on AOL. Browse through them and see which ones you want to participate in.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Sign on to AOL.

  2. Step 2

    Choose Internet on the toolbar.

  3. Step 3

    Choose Newsgroups from the menu.

  4. Step 4

    Choose AOL NetFind - Search Newsgroups if you want to look for AOL newsgroups.

  5. Step 5

    Choose Search All Newsgroups if you want to look for newsgroups outside of AOL.

  6. Step 6

    Type in the category you're looking for and press Enter on the keyboard.

Tips & Warnings
  • Subscribe to a newsgroup if you find one you plan on visiting often. It makes it easy to just click on it and view.
  • Newsgroups are different from chat rooms; instead of instant messages, users send "posts" (also called "articles") as e-mail. The posts are displayed for the whole group. The information in newsgroups tends to be more substantial than in chat rooms. Some newsgroups are "moderated"; you need to send a post to a moderator, who then must approve the post before it gets displayed. This ensures that only useful information appears.
