"Orphaned" Web pages have no links leading to or coming from the page. Find and correct orphan pages using FrontPage, Microsoft's simple Web design program. These instructions use FrontPage 97.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Start the FrontPage program and open the web to be checked.

  2. Step 2

Choose Hyperlink View from the Explorer's View menu. The pages will be displayed in a box on the right side of the screen. Orphan pages will not have lines leading to or from them.

  3. Step 3

Double-click on an orphan page to edit it (probably to add links). Make sure to add a link to the orphan from another page as well.

  4. Step 4

Delete an unwanted page by clicking on it and selecting Delete from the Edit menu.

  5. Step 5

Click on each page name in the left screen to view its relationship to other pages.

Tips & Warnings
  • Every page in a site should return to the home page, whether through another page or on its own.
  • Footers at the bottom of each page can contain navigation bars or a link to the home page. Read "How to Add a Footer to a Web Page in FrontPage" and "How to Create a Text Navigation Bar in Front Page" in the Related eHows, to learn more about adding footers to each page.
