How to Convert a Text Document to HTML With FrontPage

Add plain text (.txt) files to your FrontPage web for simple, fast Web publishing. These instructions use Microsoft FrontPage 97.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Start the FrontPage program and open an existing web.
Step2
Choose Show FrontPage Editor from the Tools menu, or click on the FrontPage Editor icon on the toolbar.

Click on the File menu and choose Open. Click on the Other Location tab.
Step4
Click on the From File radio button and choose Browse to locate the file on your hard disk. In the dialog box, choose the "Files of type" drop-down menu and change it to Text Files (.txt).
Step5
Locate the file to import and click OK.
Step6
Choose the From Location radio button to use a file located on the Internet. Type the URL and click OK.
Step7
Select the preferred conversion method and click OK. See the Tips below for different types of conversion options.
Step8
Make any desired changes and save the page when finished.
Step9
Preview the page in a Web browser by choosing Preview in Browser from the File menu. From the dialog box, choose which browser to use and what settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • The One Formatted Paragraph option converts the text to one single formatted paragraph.
  • The Formatted Paragraphs option converts each paragraph to formatted text.
  • The Normal Paragraph option converts each paragraph to normal text, without formatting.
  • The Normal Paragraph with Line Breaks option converts each paragraph to normal text with hard line breaks.
