Documents created in Microsoft Word or other word processing programs can be converted to HTML using Microsoft FrontPage. This tutorial uses FrontPage 97.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Start the FrontPage program and open an existing web.
Step2
Choose Show FrontPage Editor from the Tools menu, or click on the FrontPage Editor icon on the tool bar. This will open the FrontPage Editor.
Step3
Click on the File menu and choose Open. Click on the Other Location tab.
Step4
Click the From File radio button and choose Browse to locate the file on your hard drive. In the dialog box, choose the "Files of type" drop-down menu and change it to Word Files (.doc).
Step5
Locate the file and click OK.
Step6
Choose the From Location radio button to use a file located on the Internet. Type the URL and click OK. Make sure the URL ends in ".doc".
Step7
Make any desired changes and save the page when finished.
Step8
Preview the page in a Web browser by choosing Preview in Browser from the File menu. From the dialog box, choose which browser to use and what settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • FrontPage automatically converts the document to Rich Text Format (.rtf) before saving it as an HTML document.
  • Graphics are automatically converted to GIF or JPEG format.
  • Often a document created in Word will not retain the formatting options in HTML. You'll need to make the required formatting changes using the FrontPage Editor.
