How to Add a Footer to a Web Page With FrontPage

Use footers to add information on each page, such as copyright or page author information. Add a navigation bar to a footer to make sure you include important links on every page. These instructions use Microsoft FrontPage 97.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Start the FrontPage program and open an existing web.

  2. Step 2

    Choose Show FrontPage Editor from the Tools menu, or click on the FrontPage Editor icon on the toolbar.

  3. Step 3

    Click on the File menu and choose New to create a new Web Page. Select Normal Web Page.

  4. Step 4

    Choose Page Properties from the File menu and select the Background tab.

  5. Step 5

    Click on the Get Background and Colors from Page radio button. Click on the Browse button to choose the page you're adding the footer to.

  6. Step 6

    Locate and select the main Web page or the style sheet Web page (webstyle.htm) if you used one. If not, choose the main page (index.htm). Click OK.

  7. Step 7

    Add copyright information by choosing Symbol from the Insert menu and clicking on the Copyright symbol (the letter C enclosed in a circle). Then type the date and owner of the copyright.

  8. Step 8

    Save the page as "footer.htm" when finished.

  9. Step 9

    Preview the page in a Web browser by choosing Preview in Browser from the File menu. From the dialog box, choose which browser to use and what settings.

  10. Step 10

    After the footer has been created, add it to another page by first opening the page the footer will be attached to.

  11. Step 11

    Position the cursor where the footer will be located: at the bottom of the page or within a table or frame.

  12. Step 12

    Click on the Insert menu and choose WebBot Component.

  13. Step 13

    Choose Include from the dialog box and click OK.

  14. Step 14

    Click on the Browse button to locate the footer.htm file. Click OK. The footer will appear at the cursor's position.

Tips & Warnings
  • Other footer components can include your e-mail address, the date the page was last modified, the creator of the page, company information and text links for site navigation.
  • The footer page should match the page it is being attached to in style and format.
