How to Add a Horizontal Line to a Web Page With FrontPage

Horizontal lines (also called rules) separate text, paragraphs or other components on a Web page. This tutorial uses Microsoft FrontPage 97.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Start the FrontPage program and open an existing web.

  2. Step 2

    Choose Show FrontPage Editor from the Tools menu, or click on the FrontPage Editor icon on the toolbar.

  3. Step 3

    Open the page to be edited and position the cursor where the horizontal line will appear.

  4. Step 4

    Choose Horizontal Line from the Insert menu.

  5. Step 5

    Double-click on the line to change the line properties.

  6. Step 6

    Increase the width (really the length across the page) of the line by changing the percentage or the pixels.

  7. Step 7

    Change the height (thickness) of the line by increasing the value.

  8. Step 8

    Choose the alignment (centered, left, right) and color of the line and click OK.

  9. Step 9

    Save the page when finished.

  10. Step 10

    Preview the page in a Web browser by choosing Preview in Browser from the File menu. From the dialog box, choose which browser to use and what settings.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose a line color that will complement the background colors and text style of the page.
  • Horizontal lines are a space-saving alternative to image dividers because they use HTML and do not waste space.
