Tips & Warnings
  • Change the list type by selecting the list, choosing Bullets and Numbering from the Format menu, and clicking on the desired style. Click OK.
  • Use a numbered list for steps or other items that require an explicit order; use a bulleted list for everything else.
  • Introduce your list with a sentence that makes it clear how the list items relate. The intro sentence will usually end with a colon. (For example, "Here are some great ways to decorate your house:")
  • Make sure your lists follow parallel structure (all noun phrases, all gerund phrases, all complete sentences, and so on). This will help ensure that your list is easy to understand.
