How to Create a Style Sheet for a Web Page With FrontPage

A style sheet allows you to easily maintain a consistent look (fonts, colors, background images, margin spacing and so on) throughout a Web site. These instructions use Microsoft FrontPage 97.

Things You'll Need:

    Creating the Style Sheet Using the FrontPage Editor

  1. Step 1

    Start the FrontPage program and open an existing web.

  2. Step 2

    Choose Show FrontPage Editor from the Tools menu or click on the FrontPage Editor icon on the tool bar.

  3. Step 3

    Select New Page from the File menu or click the New button on the tool bar.

  4. Step 4

    Choose Page Properties from the File menu.

  5. Step 5

    Title the page "Web Style Sheet" to differentiate it from the others.

  6. Step 6

    Use the Background tab to specify the background properties you want for your Web site, including background colors or page text.

  7. Step 7

    Change the margins, if necessary, using the Margins tab. Click OK.

  8. Step 8

    Choose Save As from the File menu. Save the file as "webstyle.htm" and click OK.

  9. Step 9

    Follow the directions in the dialog boxes to save any images or attachments to the web.

  10. Applying the Style Sheet to Web Pages

  11. Step 1

    Open the FrontPage Editor and create a new Web page, or open an existing Web page.

  12. Step 2

    Choose Page Properties from the File menu and select the Get Background and Colors From Page radio button.

  13. Step 3

    Click the Browse button and locate the style sheet (webstyle.htm). Click OK. The settings you created on the style sheet page are applied to the new page.

  14. Step 4

    Save the page when finished.

  15. Step 5

    Preview the page in a Web browser by choosing Preview in Browser from the File menu. From the dialog box, choose which browser to use and what settings.
