How to Set Background Colors on a Web Page With FrontPage

Tired of that plain, boring white or gray background? Add variety and spice to your Web page with a colored background. These instructions are for FrontPage 97.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Start the FrontPage program and open an existing web. (See "How to Begin a Web Site with FrontPage" in the related eHows.)

  2. Step 2

    Open a Web page.

  3. Step 3

    Choose Show FrontPage Editor from the Tools menu, or click on the FrontPage Editor icon on the toolbar.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the File menu and choose Page Properties. Click on the Background tab.

  5. Step 5

    Check the Specify Backgrounds and Colors radio button.

  6. Step 6

    Click on the menu next to Background. Select a color or choose Custom to create a custom color.

  7. Step 7

    Make any other changes, such as body text color or link colors. Click OK.

  8. Step 8

    Save the page when finished.

  9. Step 9

    Preview the page in a Web browser by choosing Preview in Browser from the File menu. From the dialog box, choose which browser to use and what settings.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful when using bright, bold or splashy colors - they can distract the viewer's eye from the content of the page.
  • Use a contrasting color for the page's text. While black is generally acceptable for most colors, it might get lost on darker backgrounds.
  • Some browsers are set to ignore the background colors features, so be sure to design a page that can be seen against a white background as well.
