How to Begin a Web Site With FrontPage

In FrontPage 2000, before you start working on a Web page, you need to create the site (or "web") that will hold the page.

Things You'll Need:

• Microsoft FrontPage

1. Start the FrontPage 2000 program. From the File menu, choose New, then Web.

2. Select a FrontPage web type from the options listed. Click once to see a brief description on the right side of the screen.

3. Type the location of the new web on your hard disk and select OK. Choose Add to Current Web if you're creating a "subweb" (a site within a Web site). Click OK.

4. Edit or create new pages in the web. Save the web when finished by choosing Save As from the File menu.

Tips & Warnings

• Microsoft FrontPage comes pre-loaded with several templates. Create a test site using a template to see what's included.
• You can download other FrontPage Web site templates from the FrontPage Related Sites. Most of these templates are free to use and will teach you the basics of FrontPage Web site design.
• When you want to work on your site in the future, open the web and then the pages in it.
• FrontPage 97 works a little differently - you don't have the option to create a subweb, and you're prompted to type in a name for your first page.
• While it's acceptable to use other Web sites for inspiration, avoid using other people's graphics, layout or design in your own site. Unless a Web site specifically announces that its graphics, layout and so on are free to use, the site and its contents are copyrighted.

on 5/28/2009 While there is definitely a learning curve using FrontPage, once you practice with it, if you're going to own your own Website, it's great tool for beginners and those not technically inclined.
