The natural tendency of your ski is to go downhill. However, sometimes you'll need to go uphill, maybe even to retrieve a wayward ski.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Ski Bindings
  • Ski Boots
  • Ski Clothing
  • Ski Poles
  • Skis

Step1
Point your skis across the hill. Imagine where a snowball would roll down the hill - the fall line - then keep your skis perpendicular to that line.
Step2
Lean into the uphill edge of both skis. Using your edges will help prevent you from sliding.
Step3
Lift your uphill ski several inches off the snow, keeping all of your weight on your downhill ski.
Step4
Step up the hill with your raised ski.
Step5
Shift your weight to your uphill ski.
Step6
Lift your downhill ski off the snow.
Step7
Step up with the downhill ski.
Step8
Continue the stepping process until you reach your destination.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use your poles for balance as you sidestep.
  • Take your time. Walking uphill can be strenuous work.
  • Skiing is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
