"Falls happen when people put themselves in a situation where they are forced to recover from a maneuver. I try to avoid those falls by surfing smart." - Timmy Reyes, O'Neill surf team rider

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately challenging

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Surf smart.
Step2
Get a traction pad and make sure you have good wax so you don't slip off your board.
Step3
Ride a board that floats you well enough and that you are comfortable maneuvering.
Step4
Commit to the maneuver, whatever it is.
Step5
Paddle hard so you get into the wave early and don't have to fight the drop.
Step6
Work for speed so your momentum carries you through maneuvers.
Step7
Keep your knees bent to absorb energy, backwash and chop.
Step8
Stay low so you don't overextend yourself.

Tips & Warnings

  • "A low center of gravity is key. Definitely keep low and bend the knees so you can get your board back underneath you if you're in trouble." - Timmy Reyes, O'Neill surf team rider
