Face forward with your feet shoulders' width apart. Step forward on one leg with your knee bent. Your back leg will be straight (front stance).
Step2
Form the striking hand into a fist. The striking hand will be the same side as your back leg. Remember to keep your thumb on the outside of your fist, curved over the index finger.
Step3
Raise your fist above and behind the same-side shoulder, with the bottom of your hand facing up and out.
Step4
Strike forward and downward in a circular arc to the target, striking with the bottom (fleshy) part of the fist.
Tips & Warnings
Use only when striking from above a target area. Lower your hips and throw your back into your downward arc to gain power.
Practice speed and timing with a partner.
Three other hammerfist strikes are inside, reverse and backward. Targets include the jaw, ribs, face, kidneys, groin, thigh and spine.
