  1. Step 1

Look forward, but turn your chest and hips to the side. Maintain a straight posture.

  2. Step 2

Place your front foot slightly forward, with your knee bent 45 degrees. Raise the heel of your front foot off the floor slightly.

  3. Step 3

Place your back foot at a 90-degree angle to the front foot. Align the heels of both feet. Bend your back leg close to a 90-degree angle.

  4. Step 4

Allocate 70 percent of your weight to your back leg.

  5. Step 5

Open your striking hand (front leg side) with your fingers extended and touching together. Arch the hand backward, forcing the palm side of the knuckles forward.

  6. Step 6

Fold the thumb into the palm, bending the top of the thumb downward.

  7. Step 7

Curve the tips of your fingers in slightly while keeping the hand arched backward.

  8. Step 8

Move your striking hand under the opposite arm, palm down.

  9. Step 9

Sweep outward with the hand while pulling the non-striking hand back.

  10. Step 10

Keep the elbow slightly bent as the strike sweeps outward.

  11. Step 11

Twist the palm up immediately before the impact, striking with the inner edge of the hand (thumb side between the index-finger knuckle and wrist bone).

Tips & Warnings
  • The reverse ridge hand strike is fast and forceful. If an attack is life-threatening, use the technique to strike the attacker's neck.
  • Practicing the martial arts is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
