How to Perform a Straight Punch in Jeet Kune Do
Jeet kune do, a martial arts style created by Bruce Lee, emphasizes a fluid approach. As a result, the leading straight punch in jeet kune do is rarely performed in isolation, but usually in combination with offensive and defensive moves.

Tips & Warnings
Strike the attacker with your whole body, not just with arm power. Transfer the force of the legs, waist and shoulder power during the strike.
The rear "guarding" hand will be held high with your hand open to protect your upper body from a counterattack.
The vertical fist adds 2 or 3 inches in reach over classical techniques, such as a straight punch in karate.
Deliver the punch with your arms and shoulders loose. Tighten your fist immediately before impact.
If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity.

Instead of only using your shoulders and elbow, take aim with your elbow. Then literally, throw you body at your opponent while initiating your punch.
