1. Look for high quality rather than a low price, or you may end up with a bare-bones model without useful features.

2. Avoid buying a super-lightweight harness as they have minimal padding, which makes them uncomfortable to fall in.

3. Choose a model with sufficient padding but not one with massive amounts of padding designed for climbing huge stone monoliths.

4. Try on many different models.

5. Select a harness that has adjustable leg loops and hard plastic gear loops attached to the waist belt.
