How to Make Honey Bread

Here's a generations-old recipe that has stood the test of time. It's a slightly sweet, very soft bread that you can make without yeast. It's best to use an electric mixer, though, because it requires lots of beating. This recipe makes two eight-inch loaves. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. powdered ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup honey
  • Groceries

Instructions

      Heat the oven to 350 degrees F.

      Sift the dry ingredients into the bowl of an electric mixer.

      Beat the eggs, then add the milk and honey to the eggs and beat them together.

      Add the mixture to the dry ingredients and beat well for at least 15 minutes but preferably 30.

      Butter two 8-inch loaf pans and divide the batter between them.

      Bake for 40-50 minutes. The loaves will be puffed and golden when done.

Tips & Warnings

  • This recipe can also be made as muffins. Simply divide the mixture between 6-8 large buttered muffin tins and decrease baking time by about 10-15 minutes.
