How to Plan a Trip to Disney World

By eHow Travel Editor

Rate: (12 Ratings)

At the Walt Disney World resort in Florida, you can visit four Disney theme parks on the same day: the Magic Kingdom, Disney-MGM Studios, Epcot and Disney's Animal Kingdom Park. And that's just the beginning of the fun you'll have at this world-famous vacation destination.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Start planning your vacation several months ahead, especially if you have to travel a long distance to get to the resort.
Step2
Try to plan your trip in winter if you can. Summer brings heat and humidity to the Florida coast.
Step3
Access the Walt Disney World Web site (disneyworld.com) for information about Disney passport prices, accommodations, events happening within the parks and transportation options. You can also download theme park maps.
Step4
If desired, you can buy tickets, book your lodging reservation and explore all that each of the four theme parks has to offer on the Web site.
Step5
Use your own travel agent to book your reservations if you are not happy with what you find online.
Step6
Pack up the family and have fun!

Tips & Warnings

  • For information about the Disney Cruise Line, call (800) WDW-CRUISE.
  • For a one-day, one-park pass for a family of four (two adults and two children three to nine years of age), expect to pay about $230. You will save money in the long run if you buy passes that allow you entrance to more than one park for more than one day. Explore the Web site for options.
  • Read as much as you can about Walt Disney World before making your plans. Guidebooks provide great tips and advice for making the most of your days in the park.
  • Although Disney World is open all year, be sure to check for weather warnings during the fall hurricane season.
  • Be sure to bring along your own film, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellant and hats. These items are notoriously expensive inside the park.

on 8/8/2006 They're there to make your day better. If it's your birthday, anniversary, or honeymoon, go get a button. If your child's wheelchair looks like a stroller, or is a stroller, get a Guest Assistance Pass (same if you're not able to stand for long, or your child has autism and doesn't do well with lines, or you need shows interpreted, or anything). You name it, they can probably help.

on 8/8/2006 Did you know that if you drop your ice cream, drink, popcorn, pretzel, or whatever, you can get it replaced for free at Disney? Just go up to a cart selling whatever it is, and explain the situation. Same goes for anything else bad that could happen to you at Disney - a ride breaks down after you've been waiting in line forever, a bird poops on your shirt, the person at the front of the line said your child was tall enough but the person 30 minutes later in line said he wasn't. Find a cast member, politely explain what happened, and know what you'd like. If you waited in line for a ride and then didn't get to ride, ask for a fast pass for either that ride or another one. Did I mention be polite?

on 8/8/2006 Talk to cast members (employees), especially about their park. Not only will they be able to suggest the best rides at the best times, they'll also be able to suggest the 'hidden delights' that most people pass by.

on 7/15/2006 Disney is great to book through for your on site accommodations and ticket and meal package all in one, but do yourself a favor and buy airline tickets separately. It is much less expensive this way.

on 7/15/2006 By all means, stay on site. Most hotels in the area cost at least as much as the Value resorts cost and aren't as convenient. When you stay on site, there is always a bus coming to pick you up for any location and it is quick and free and easy. You also get Extra Magic Hours-which I cannot begin to explain how fantastic it is to have these available to you. Every day you can enter the water parks an hour early and also every day a different park will either be open an hour early or stay open up to 3 hours later! It is really fantastic.

Last year, My boyfriend and I got to stay in the Magic Kingdom till 2 AM and we got a picture with Mickey and Minnie together, which is very rare!
