How to Create Styles in PageMaker

Whenever you create a document containing four or more pages, you may want to create a style sheet that describes the fonts, margins, and other settings used for a paragraph. Once you've created the styles, you can easily apply them to other paragraphs. Also, after editing the styles you'll be able to see the changes reflected immediately throughout the document. These instructions are for PageMaker 6.0 and 6.5.

Things You'll Need:

  • PageMaker 6.5 (Mac OS)
  • PageMaker 6.5 (Windows)
  1. Step 1

    Go to the Type menu and select Define Styles.

  2. Step 2

    Select New to create a new style.

  3. Step 3

    Select Char (Character Specifications) and select the font specifications you want for this style, such as font, font size, leading, and type style (bold, italics, and so on), then click OK until you return to the Style Options window.

  4. Step 4

    Select Para (Paragraph Specifications) and enter the indent, spacing, alignment, and rules and options specifications, then click OK until you return to the Style Options window.

  5. Step 5

    Select Tabs or Hyph (Hyphenation) and enter the tab or hyphenation information you want for this style, then click OK until you return to the Style Options window.

  6. Step 6

    Click OK in the Style Options window when you are finished setting up this style; you'll return to the Define Styles window.

  7. Step 7

    Repeat steps 1 to 7 to create the next style or click OK to close the Define Styles window and return to the document.

Tips & Warnings
  • To change one of PageMaker's default styles, select it in the New Styles box, then select Edit.
