Using a dashboard cover is a handy way to cover up an original dashboard that's become damaged by the sun over time, or to protect it from getting damaged in the first place.
Make certain that the cover will fit snugly or properly over your dash. Many dashboard covers are constructed to fit snugly on particular models of cars.
Step2
Select a durable cover. Popular covers are made of ABS plastic or velour. ABS plastic is hard yet flexible. It can expand or contract with heat or cold. Therefore, there is less chance of cracking. ABS plastic can also be painted to match the interior of the vehicle. You can get vinyl or plastic paint from automotive stores, or visit a store that mixes paint so that you can get a closer match to the interior.
Step3
Consider the quality of the cover. With velour, the edges and vents should be trimmed, with smooth, flowing curves. All velour cover edges should be completely trimmed, with no exposed foam. Special Velcro should be included that can easily be positioned where needed. The velour cover should be durable, with three layers - plush velour, foam middle, and hook-compatible backing.
Step4
Choose a cover that has a good warranty. Many come with a lifetime warranty.
Step5
Make certain that the cover is easy to install. Velour can be secured with Velcro. ABS plastic can be secured to the dash with silicone.
Step6
Understand what needs to be done to care for the cover. Many covers need very little care. Some people suggest that you use a window shade to repel heat off the cover and crack the window a bit during hot days.
