Looking pulled together can seem like the result of a lot of effort, but it takes less time and energy than you'd think. Most of the women I've met who always look fabulous swear that they only spend five to ten minutes getting ready. In most cases, looking put together is the result of caring for little yet important details and acquiring simple habits that help you look great at all times. If you look closely, you'll notice that women who always look pulled together do at least one of the following things. Here are a few simple secrets you can steal from them to try yourself!
1. Polish your skin and groom your brows.
Even if you have only five minutes to get ready, it's worth spending them on your skin and eyebrows. If your eye makeup looks great and you're wearing a beautiful lip color but your eyebrows are sparse and your skin is uneven, you won't look put together.
Make sure to give your skin a fresh, healthy look by using a moisturizer that suits your skin type and a foundation or tinted moisturizer that matches your skin tone. Conceal any redness and pigmentation and use a brightening concealer under your eyes. If time is not an issue, add a touch of highlighter on the high points of your face: cheekbones, brow bones, bridge of the nose and Cupid's bow.
For your eyebrows, make sure to groom them every other week, but don't over pluck them. Fill in any sparse areas with an eyebrow pencil or powder and use a brow gel to fix the hairs in place. If you already have full eyebrows that do not require filling them in, just use the eyebrow gel to tame unruly hairs and give them a more polished look.
2. Wear a bold lip (preferably red).
A bold lip color, especially a red lip, is a quick way to look glammed up, even if the rest of the makeup look is minimal. After you find the perfect shade of red that suits your face, it becomes your secret weapon to looking great in a minute. However, in order to look put together you want to make sure the color is applied well, with your lip contour nicely defined and the color looking even. You also want to make sure that your skin is looking fresh and polished, with any redness being properly disguised.
3. Try a low ponytail.
Great for a date or a day at the office, a low ponytail is an easy way to make your hair look perfectly "done." You can opt for a more sophisticated, chic version of it for an evening out or a more messy, casual version for a daytime look. If your hair is not clean, or if you simply don't have time to style it, it is the perfect solution to getting ready and looking put together in no time. Brush your hair and part it in a way that best suits your face. If you're opting for a more sleek ponytail, you may want to use a styling product to add some shine and tame unruly hairs. Secure your ponytail to make sure that it is not going to move too much, and you're done!
4. Groom your nails and cuticles.
Brittle nails and dry cuticles can ruin your entire look and make you sloppy, no matter how well curated every other detail of your look is. Well-painted nails always add a beautiful touch that will make you look put together, but if you don't like painting your nails or if you simply don't have time for it, make sure to at least keep your nails short and clean and keep your cuticles moisturized. Apply a good cuticle balm at night before bed, which will eliminate the need for doing it when you are in a rush.
5. Keep up with your hair color.
No matter what your hair color is, you should try to keep up with gray roots and fading hair color, which can give you a sloppy appearance. Use hair products specifically formulated for color-treated hair, which help keep your hair color vibrant. You can even use coconut oil to repair color-damaged hair. In between touch-ups, use a product that temporarily disguises gray hairs like Mineral Fusion's Root Concealer, which comes in a few different shades so it blends in with your hair and looks very natural.
