Just like a bold necklace can make an outfit, a statement centerpiece can pull your table together for any holiday or celebration. And learning how to tailor it to each season or holiday is an invaluable skill to have.
Things You'll Need
- Clear glass vase
- Plastic cup
- Floral foam
Cinnamon sticks (See tip below for other seasonal filler ideas)
- Flowers and greenery
- Faux branches
- Garden shears or scissors
Cinnamon sticks, peppermint sticks and cranberries are great for fall and winter. Lemon and lime slices are great during the summertime. You can even tailor the fillers for specific holidays — heart candies for Valentine's Day or mini eggs for Easter.
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Choose a vase filler that coordinates with the season you are decorating for, such as cinnamon sticks during the winter holidays. Use an assortment of fresh flowers and greenery for the arrangement.
Step 2: Add Filler to the Vase
Lay the vase on its side and start adding the cinnamon sticks or your choice of vase filler.
Place the cup inside the vase and finish adding the filler around the cup.
Step 3: Add the Foam
Soak the floral foam in a sink or bowl full of water until it's saturated.
Place the foam inside the plastic cup and fill the cup approximately 3/4 full of water.
Step 4: Trim the Flowers to Size
Trim your flowers with garden shears or scissors to the appropriate height for your vase.
Step 5: Add the Flowers and Greenery
Add the flowers to the vase by inserting them into the foam starting with the largest flowers first then working your way to the smallest flowers.
Add the greenery, such as eucalyptus or evergreen, and faux branches and berries last.
As you add your flowers, turn the vase around so you can see all sides to make sure the flowers are evenly spaced. Use extra greenery to fill in any gaps.
Set the table at your next gathering with this beautiful seasonal centerpiece!
