How to Cook Broccoli in a Skillet With Bacon

Give plain broccoli an exciting new twist with the addition of crumbled bacon. The salty, smoky bacon gives the broccoli a necessary flavor boost, so everyone will be happy to eat their vegetables with this simple side dish. The dish takes less than 15 minutes to prepare, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner. For an extra burst of flavor, try adding sliced aromatics like onion, shallots or garlic to the pan halfway through cooking the bacon.

Things You'll Need

  • Pot
  • Salt and pepper
  • Cut the bacon into 1-inch pieces. You'll need about 3 or 4 slices of bacon for every pound of broccoli. Cut the broccoli into florets.

  • Add the broccoli florets to a pot of salted boiling water and cook for 3 minutes. Drain the broccoli and rinse under cold, running water. Set aside.

  • Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently. Fry the bacon until it become crisp, about 6 to 8 minutes.

  • Add the broccoli to the skillet and toss thoroughly. Cook until the broccoli is tender, about 3 to 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.
