How to Make Fudge

Fudge is a luscious addition to any holiday fare, and can be served as dessert or all by itself. This recipe takes about 25 minutes to prepare and makes about 64 1-inch pieces of chocolate fudge. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 2 3/4 cups sugar
  • 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate
  • 3 tbs. butter, and some more for greasing pan
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbs. corn syrup
  • 1 tbs. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped, roasted nuts
  • 1/2 cup small marshmallows

Instructions

      Mix butter, chocolate chips, marshmallows, vanilla and nuts (if desired) in the large mixing bowl.

      Bring the milk and sugar to a rolling boil in the heavy pan and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

      Pour sugar and milk mixture over other ingredients in mixing bowl.

      Stir until all ingredients are well blended and marshmallows, butter and chocolate chips are dissolved.

      Pour fudge into buttered foil or baking pans.

      Let fudge stand 24 hours before eating, or cover and store in refrigerator.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cut fudge into squares before it is completely hardened.

  • For a holiday gift, pour fudge into smaller pans, cover with cellophone wrap and add a bow.

  • Look for an easy - and traditional - fudge recipe on the back of 7-oz. Jet-Puffed Marshmallow Creme jars.

  • Fudge will be very hot when it is ready to pour. Use caution, especially if children are present.

    It didn't say anything to do with the corn syrup, so I ended up forgetting to put it in.

    `Bring the milk and sugar to a rolling boil in the heavy pan and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.` May take way longer than 10 minutes depending on ingredient proportions. Took about 30 minutes for me. Continue cooking until the mix begins to turn brown. In order to tell when it is complete and ready to pour, drop some of the mixture into a cup full of cold water. It is ready if the mixture turns into a soft ball (may drop to the bottom) that is easily squished when removed from the water.

    Do i have to use unsweetend chocolate? or can i just use a bag of chocolate chips?
