Pomegranate juice can be used to make gelatin desserts, sauces and dressing, while the seeds can be used as a garnish or eaten alone. There is no right way to get at the juicy insides of a pomegranate, but these suggestions should help.

Things You'll Need:

    Extract the Seeds

  1. Step 1

    Cut off the flowery end of the pomegranate.

  2. Step 2

    Score into sections.

  3. Step 3

    Place in a bowl of water.

  4. Step 4

    Allow fruit to soak for 5 minutes.

  5. Step 5

    Break the sections of the fruit open in the bowl of water.

  6. Step 6

    Allow the seed kernels to separate from the rind and sink to the bottom.

  7. Step 7

    Discard the rind and drain the kernels.

  8. Extract the Juice

  9. Step 1

    Press the fruit against a countertop.

  10. Step 2

    Roll it back and forth to break open the kernels and release the juice.

  11. Step 3

    Puncture or cut the pomegranate to squeeze the juice out.

Tips & Warnings
  • Another method is to blend seeds in a blender or food processor, and drain the juice through cheesecloth.
  • Be careful where you cut and eat the fruit - the juice stains.

on 11/22/2005 Cut the pomegranate in half, hold one half over a plate and bash the shell with a wooden spoon. The seeds will come out. No more tedious picking out with a cocktail stick!
