How to Hide Who You Watch on Tumblr

When you follow someone on Tumblr, that person's blog name displays publicly on your homepage. Visitors who read your blog will see the names of people you're following. This display helps your visitors find other blogs that they might enjoy. Tumblr doesn't have a built-in option to hide your list of followed users, but you can remove the list yourself by changing the HTML code in the Tumblr theme editor.

  • Go to Tumblr and sign in with your username and password.

  • Click the gear icon at the top of the page, then select the blog you want to edit.

  • Click “Customize” in the Theme section, then click “Edit HTML” in the left sidebar.

  • Press “Ctrl-F” to open the search bar at the bottom of the window. Type “block:following” (without quotes) in the search bar, and then click “Next.”

  • Highlight and delete all the lines between the {block:Following} and {/block:Following} tags, including the tags themselves.

  • Click “Appearance,” and then click “Save” to apply the change.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may want to copy the “block:Following” code lines and save them in a text document on your computer. If you want to display your followed blogs again, you can paste the code back into the theme editor.
  • When editing your Tumblr theme, don't delete anything except for the indicated “block:Following” lines. Deleting certain lines may change the way your theme looks or cause problems with your blog.
