How to Disable Word Prediction

Save

Android, iOS and BlackBerry devices use predictive text to suggest or correct words entered using the on-screen keyboard. The feature is designed to correct common misspellings but may fail to recognize proper nouns, colloquialisms and technical or scientific terms. If predictive text inserts errors into your emails or text messages, you can turn off the feature from the Settings menu.

Disable Word Prediction in iOS

  • Touch "Settings" on the Home or Apps screen and then tap "General."

  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap "Keyboard."

  • Toggle the Auto-Correction option to "Off." To prevent iOS from automatically capitalizing characters as well, toggle Auto-Capitalization to "Off."

Disable Predictive Text on Android

  • Press the "Menu" key from the Home screen and then touch "Settings."

  • Select "Android Keyboard Settings" from under Input Options and then touch "Auto Correction."

  • Choose "Off" from the menu to disable predictive text.
