Step 1
Acquaint yourself with Australian seasons. Spring starts in September, summer in December, fall in March and winter in June.
-
Step 2
Pack lightweight yet traditional suits for business trips. Women dress conservatively on the job, wearing hose with all suits.
-
Step 3
Prepare for long, hot and humid summers. Take shorts, short-sleeved shirts, skirts and sundresses in cotton and linen, as these fabrics will breathe in the heat. A hat, sunglasses and sunblock will protect you from the sun's intense rays.
-
Step 4
Bring plenty of layers when visiting during the winter months. Winters in Sydney are mild, but can get cold. Lightweight wool, fleece and flannel garments will keep you warm and comfortable.
-
Step 5
Pack sandals and a pair of walking shoes.
-
Step 6
Bring an umbrella if you intend to visit between October and April, as these are the city's wettest months.
-
Step 7
Stash a swimsuit in your bag in case you have the opportunity to hit the waves at Bondi Beach.

on 11/22/2005 Take a hooded sweatshirt (at least one) and some long fleece pants. I froze all through our sail ("Just bring a light sweater" won't cut it!). Most of the Brits and Europeans on the sail had plenty of warm clothes with them, even though it was February.

on 11/22/2005 While I was vacationing in Sydney, my husband was bitten by a funnel-web spider and almost died. Hospitals have anti-venom on hand, but there may not be any if you are in the Outback. Sydney is infested with these spiders. We kept finding them in our hotel room and the pool area. We didn't pay much attention until my husband's misadventure.

on 11/22/2005 During late spring and early summer, it's best to bring along a jacket, sweater, or cardigan. Even during that time of the year, you may think it is warm enough to go without a jacket, but the wind is pretty chilly. Just trust me on this, I kept getting goosebumps!

on 11/22/2005 Prepare for anything. Sydney can be HOT or it can be freezing. Also, if you're working, err on the side of conservative. If you're traveling, pretty much anything goes.

on 11/22/2005 Be prepared for unpredictable weather, especially during spring/summer. Pack something versatile. In winter, it's clear and sunny almost every day.
