By default, the bookmarks on your iPad appear in the same order in which you added them. The more websites you have bookmarked, though, the harder it becomes to find the one you want in the list. Arranging them in alphabetical order will make your life easier. However, you will need to do the sorting yourself since there is no way to automatically alphabetize bookmarks in Safari for iOS.
Open your bookmarks and tap "Edit." Doing this will put the bookmark list in edit mode, adding a few new icons next to the name of each bookmark.
Touch and hold the grab handle for a bookmark, and then drag it up or down to its new position in the list. The grab handle bears an icon with three stacked horizontal lines.
Tap "Done" to exit edit mode once you have dragged all bookmarks into the correct position.
Tips & Warnings
- Sorting all your bookmarks into sub-folders by category and leaving the main bookmark folder as a holding area for newly added, unsorted bookmarks will make your life easier. To create folders, open your bookmarks, tap "Edit," tap the "New Folder" button, enter a name for the folder and tap "Done." To move bookmarks to a different folder, tap the arrow next to the bookmark's name while in edit mode, and then select a new folder from the drop-down menu on the bookmark editing screen.
