How to Ask Someone to Endorse You on LinkedIn

Save

Your first-level LinkedIn connections can endorse skills listed on your profile to attest to your level of expertise. Endorsements are different from recommendations on LinkedIn. You can send a formal recommendation request to ask for a written reference from a former instructor, boss or colleague. To request an endorsement, simply send a message through the LinkedIn platform asking for the endorsement from your connection. Provide steps for endorsing a skill in case the message recipient is unaware of or has never used this feature. Endorsers can simply click a listed skill in your profile page, or they can add and endorse additional skills from the Profile menu.

Send Request Message

  • Open LinkedIn and log in with a valid username and password.

  • Click the “My Connections” tab to view a list of your connections in alphabetical order.

  • Scroll to and click on the entry for the message recipient to open the connection’s profile page.

  • Click the “Send Message” option in the top navigation menu to open the New Message form.

  • Type your endorsement request in the message body. Include instructions regarding how to endorse a skill, if appropriate.

  • Click “Send.”
