How to Turn Off Ad Blogs on Tumblr

Advertisements on Tumblr take the form of sponsored posts that automatically appear on your dashboard, regardless of whether you are following that particular blog. Because Tumblr offers no way to hide these advertisements, you will need to install a browser add-on that makes it possible to block posts based on their content. The exact method you will need to use varies depending on whether you install XKit, an add-on available for Chrome, Firefox and Safari, or Tumblr Savior, an add-on available for Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari. If you use Internet Explorer, there is no way to get rid of these ads.

  • Download XKit from the official website (see link in Resources) and install it. Once the initial installation is complete, visit Tumblr, sign in and follow the on-screen prompts.

  • Reload your Tumblr dashboard when prompted and click on the "XKit" icon.

  • Select the "Get Extensions" tab, locate the Blacklist extension in the list and click "Install."

  • Click "My XKit," select "Blacklist" and click "Add New Word."

  • Type "sponsored" (without quotes) in the text field and then click "Add Word." Click anywhere outside of the XKit window to close it and return to your dashboard.

Tumblr Savior

  • Download Tumblr Savior from the official website (see link in Resources) and install it.

  • Click the "Tumblr Savior" icon on your browser's toolbar.

  • Type "sponsored_badge" without quotes in one of the text fields under the "Blacklist" heading and then click "Save." Click anywhere outside of the Tumblr Savior window to close it.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you already use AdBlock Plus, you can also add the following rule to it:[class*="sponsored_post"]
