How to Post to Someone Else's Blog in Tumblr

Save

You can post to someone else’s Tumblr blog in three ways. If you and the blog owner or administrator follow each other on Tumblr, and if the administrator has enabled Replies, then the “Reply” feature is available when you view the administrator’s posts in your dashboard. If you do not follow the user, or if he does not follow you, you can post comments using the integrated Disqus feature; however, this feature is not available on all blogs. Finally, you can post to a shared blog if the blog's owner invites you to join the blog as a member and provides you with editing permissions.

Things You'll Need

  • Shared blog invitation and password (shared blog only)

Reply

  • Open Tumblr in a Web browser and log in with your user name and password.

  • Navigate to the target blog in your own dashboard. The Reply feature only functions from this location.

  • Click the “Speech Bubble” icon in the bottom right corner of the blog entry. The “Reply” pop-up box displays.

  • Type your comment in the “Reply” box, then click “Reply.” Your comment is posted to the target blog.

Post Comment With Disqus

  • Open a Web browser and navigate to the target blog post. If Disqus is enabled, you will see the Comments section below the blog post.

  • Click the “Time and Date” link on the top of the blog post to display the Disqus Comment box.

  • Click the “Disqus” drop-down box in the top right corner of the screen, then click the login method you will use. Click “Disqus” to log in with a Disqus account, or click one of the other options to log in with a social media account. Type your username and password, then click “Sign In.” The Comment box is enabled.

  • Type your comment in the text box, then click “Post as <Username>” where “Username” is the user name you used to log in. Your comment is posted to the blog; however, if the administrator moderates comments, the comment will not appear until it is approved.

Post to Shared Blog

  • Click the “Join Group” link emailed to you by the blog’s owner. Tumblr opens in a Web browser.

  • Log in with your Tumblr username and password.

  • Click the “Shared Blog” link in the right navigation menu. The Password prompt for the blog displays if the blog is secured with a password. Enter the password if required. The shared blog opens in the browser.

  • Click the “Text” icon in the top navigation menu, then click inside the Text box. Type the text for your post. Click “Publish” to post the text.

  • Click the “Photo” icon, then click the center of the “Photo” window to open the file navigator. Navigate to and click on the image, then click “Open” to add the photo to the post.

  • Click the “Link” option to insert a hyperlink into the post. Type the “Link Title" in the Title field, and then make any necessary edits to the link in the text box. Click “Publish” to post the link.

  • Click either the “Audio” or “Video” icon to insert media into the post. Click “Search” to search for a media file on your Tumblr site. Click “Upload” to open a file navigation window and upload a media file from your computer. The file navigation window opens. Navigate to and click on a media file. Click “Open” to insert the media file. You can also click “External Link,” then type a URL to a media element. Click “Publish” to post the media in the blog post.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tap the “Reblog” option in a blog entry from your dashboard to republish the post on your own blog. You can then add comments to the reblogged post, if desired.
  • The Reply feature is only available in blog entries from your dashboard. Only blogs you follow are displayed in your dashboard.
  • The Disqus feature must be enabled by the blog administrator and the blog template must support Disqus integration.
  • Your primary Tumblr blog cannot be shared.
