Instructions

    • 1

Consider the time of year you'll be visiting Miami. February through April is sunnier and less humid. Late spring and summer bring intense heat and humidity, while hurricane-like conditions are common in September and October.

    • 2

Pack shorts, sleeveless tops, short-sleeved shirts and sundresses in cotton or linen to brave the heat during warmer months. Sandals will keep your feet happy and cool.

    • 3

Pack a swimsuit, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and a good book if your plans include a day at the beach or lounging poolside.

    • 4

Bring a few sweaters and a light jacket to layer during the winter. Nighttime temperatures can dip into the 40s, so opt for long pants and long-sleeved shirts.

    • 5

Take lightweight suits when hitting Miami on business. Although flashy, bright colors adorn casual wear here, suits tend to be in the traditional black, navy and gray.

    • 6

Think fashion-forward and flashy for evening. Women dress to tantalize in tight-fitting miniskirts and snug dresses. Men stick to slacks and button-down shirts in flowing rayon or silk blends.

Tips & Warnings

  • Bring a carry-on bag that includes everything you might need in case your luggage goes astray: a change of clothes, all medications, spare contact lenses or glasses, all forms of money and any important documents.

  • Pack to accommodate your needs. Leave superfluous items at home.

  • Always pack suits in a garment bag to avoid excess wrinkles and misshapen garments after your flight.

Miami is usually warm but this year has been unusually cold. In fact I have had my Moving company in Miami for 10 years and this is the first time I can say we truly experienced a full blown winter. You definitely want to check the Miami weather forecast before heading down to Miami. No longer can the great Miami weather be taken for granted.

Those are pretty much the two types of bags you take through MIA. So be prepared to have to live off of your carry-on for a few days. Pack what you will need plus some clothes.
