Breaking in Suede Shoes

Suede is a type of leather that has a velvety, smooth texture. Just like any other type of shoes, a new pair of suede shoes may take some time to break in. Wearing them out and about all day right after buying them can leave you with blisters or sores on your feet. Break in your suede shoes properly so when you do wear them out, they fit comfortably.

Put on a thick pair of socks, then put on the shoes. Walk around your house with the shoes on for a few days. Don’t wear them all day long around the house. Instead, wear them in short spurts throughout the day.

Moisten a rag with rubbing alcohol if the shoes feel too tight even after a few days of wearing them around the house. Rub the alcohol on the inside of the shoes where they feel uncomfortable.

Put on the thick socks and wear the shoes around the house, again in short spurts throughout the day. The alcohol will help to stretch the leather.

Take the shoes to a shoe repair shop if they still aren’t broken in after a week or so. A shoe repair shop can put the shoes on a machine to stretch them in problem areas for your feet.
