In "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," you travel to the realm of Sovngarde to destroy the soul of Alduin, a world-eating dragon. Once you've defeated the monster, you can't legitimately return to Sovngarde. If you're playing on PC, though, you can go back to the Nordic paradise with a console cheat command. Another method is to install the free "Return to Sovngarde" mod, which also adds more content to the realm, including new creatures, buildings, crafting areas and skill trainers.

Console Command

Press the "~" key to pull up the developer console.

Type "coc SovngardeStart" (without quotes) to travel to Sovngarde instantly.

Type "coc" followed by the name of any location in Skyrim to exit Sovngarde. For example, if you want to exit to a city, type "coc Whiterun" or "coc Riverwood."

Return to Sovngarde Mod

Complete the main quest line in the game before installing the mod. The mod won't work if the main quest line is active.

Go to the Return to Sovngarde download page on the Nexus Mods website (link in Resources).

Click "Download Manually." Extract the .esp file to your Skyrim Data folder. You can usually find this folder at Program Files/The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim/Skyrim/Data.

Start the Skyrim launcher and click "Data Files."

Click the box next to "Return to Sovngarde" and then click "Play."

Follow the map marker to a portal outside of Windhelm. Activate the portal to go back to Sovngarde.

Tips

When you return to Sovngarde via the console command, you'll find that the Hall of Valor is locked and requires a key to open. To get around this, open the console and stand in front of the door. Type "unlock" (without quotes).

Returning to Sovngarde may cause your game to glitch, freeze or crash. Save your game before going back there.
