Telemark bindings require a bit more effort to engage than the push-and-click style of alpine ski bindings.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Ski Clothing
  • Telemark Ski Equipment
Step1
Clear snow from the bottom of your boots and top of the telemark bindings. Do this with a ski pole or your hands.
Step2
Slide the toe of one boot into the toe plate of the binding.
Step3
Make sure the toe is pushed as far as possible into the binding.
Step4
Fit the heel cable or spring of the binding into the groove on the heel of the telemark boot.
Step5
Clamp either the heel lever or toe lever (depending on the model of the binding) tightly, to provide tension.
Step6
Attach the ski-retaining strap to prevent a runaway ski.
Step7
Repeat with the other boot and binding.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have trouble fitting the spring or cable around your heel without falling over, take advantage of the free heels. Get down on one knee and fit the binding onto the boot.
  • Telemark skiing is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.

on 11/22/2005 Remember to connect your ski retaining cable to your boot before trying to fit your skis to your boots. That way if you slip, your ski stays put!
