How to Pair a Bluetooth Phone With a 2010 Malibu

As if driving wasn't already dangerous enough, cell phones and other mobile devices add to the confusion and further distract motorists on a daily basis. Most car manufactures offer Bluetooth-enabled hands-free communication systems to keep the driver's hands on the steering wheel. Chevy offered the 2010 Malibu with a similar system that was operated through controls mounted on the steering wheel, as well as through spoken commands. Pairing your mobile phone to the Malibu's Bluetooth system can appear difficult at first, but you'll feel in command once you're done.

  • Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine. Press and hold the call button on the steering wheel, indicated by a phone and face icon. A tone will sound, followed by a "Ready" message displayed on the radio screen. Release the call button.

  • Say the word "Bluetooth" and wait for a confirmation tone. Say the word "pair" and wait for another confirmation tone. A four-digit PIN code will be displayed on the screen.

  • Turn your mobile phone on and scroll to the phone settings menu. Scroll to the Bluetooth menu, then select the Pair option. Your phone should display "General Motors" as an available selection. Select "General Motors" and enter the PIN code displayed on the radio screen into your mobile phone, then press OK or Done.

  • The radio screen will prompt you to name the mobile phone. Enter the phone's name, using the steering wheel-mounted arrow buttons. The radio will display the phone's name once you are finished.

  • Press and hold the call button for two seconds until you hear a confirmation tone. Say the word "Dial" and wait for the system to prompt you to speak the number you wish to call. Say the phone number and wait for a confirmation tone. The phone number will be displayed on the screen. If the number is correct, say "Yes" to initiate the call. If the number is incorrect, say "No" and try again.

  • Press the end call button, indicated by a phone on a hook, to end the test call. Turn off the ignition switch.
